GEOGRAPHY SHAPES NATURE OF WAR IN IRAQ

As Brian Handwerk says: “Geography has played a critical role in military epics”.

About the article, I think it is a precise and concerning reflection about geography. It has many arguments to relate physical features, weather and navigation to physical and cultural problems nowadays. An example it is the Iraq’s war. About the nature of Iraq’s conflict, geography represents a kind of resource and consequence at the same time. What is more, there are technologies such as GPS systems used to get better visibility in the battlefield when storms interrupt the operations.

To me, geography has evolve with new technologies. The problem could be to use this resource to do evil, but I am sure it has many other uses, like the National Geographic does with it.

Crazy Horse

a) What makes your person legendary?
He fought to prevent American encroachment on Lakota lands and he was recognized as a visionary leader and a great warrior.

What was he involved in and/or sympathetic to?
He was convinced into perpetuate the traditions and values form the Lakota’s way of life. Furthermore, he clashed the American militia commanded by General George Armstrong Custer in 1873. He also had allies in some battles against the North Americans such as: Little Bighorn, Sitting Bull and Gall, and to the Cheyenne tribe too.

b) Was what he did heroic in your opinion?
The way I see it, to fight for something that goes beyond your expectations, and at the same time touch your feelings at the point of changing your way of acting, it is heroic. Besides, in the context he lived and the reasons he was struggling for, he was heroic, and the victorious.

Why or why not?
Becuase he acted with audacity, exposing his skills on battle, with determination and conviction
c) What reflection can you make on the issue? What is your reaction/thoughts on the matter?
To begin with, it was interesting to read something about another culture and to find things in common with “mines” , like fighting to avoid invasion of the Indian lands. To me, they deserve those lands, it is a matter of think a little bit about your ancestral cultures. To me, those kind of things are the ones which must be respected and maybe take approach (in a good way; maybe to increase the knowledge about this tribes) of it. Don’t waste your real culture.
